Organised by the Competition Commission of ICC Italia, the webinar will explore the evolving relationship between EU merger control and European competitiveness in light of the European Commission’s draft revised merger guidelines. Daniele Calisti – Head of Unit-Mergers case support and policy at DG COMP – will provide an overview of the Commission’s current thinking, with particular focus on the emerging “theories of benefits” and the renewed role of efficiencies within merger assessment.
The discussion will examine the extent to which the evolving framework may create additional room to take into account innovation, resilience, scale and broader competitiveness considerations in EU merger control. The presentation will be followed by comments from Michele Polo – Full Professor in Economics at Bocconi University – and an interactive Q&A session.

Mission and activities of the ICC Italy Competition Commission

The Competition Commission develops antitrust best practices (Toolkit) and engages with leading public institutions to ensure that, in the development and implementation of related policies and regulations, they take into account the needs of businesses and the market.
ICC, in fact, participates in the most important intergovernmental forums on competition at the European and international levels, such as the OECD, the International Competition Network (ICN), and the European Commission (DG Competition).
At the national level, its institutional counterparts are the Italian regulatory authorities (AGCM, AGCOM, and the Data Protection Authority).
